River Pattack, Variable Obermeyer Weir, Ardverike Estate

  • Temporary works included a 140m long river diversion channel lined with 2mm HDPE welded sheets, designed to cope with flows of 60 cumecs.
  • Excavated material from the diversion channel was used to build the upstream and downstream components of the bunded earth cofferdam.
  • 540m3 RC structure, overall length 65m, level difference of 7.5m from concrete key trenches cut into the riverbed, to finished bridge deck level.
  • FRC works built over 8 weeks.
  • Obermeyer variable weir installed by a team of 5, length 30m, height 1.8m
  • When in the raised position the new weir will increase the water level at Loch Pattack by 1.5m and will store an additional 1.25 million cubic meters of water to supply Gilkes Energy Ltd existing hydro power which is sited downstream of the new variable weir.
  • 45m long steel and timber deck road bridge built across the new weir to maintain estate access.
  • 26-week duration project.
